Acrylics

You can't beat acrylic nails regarding durability and sheer creative flexibility. While they may pose a challenge for nail novices, don't worry. The art of applying acrylics becomes accessible to anyone willing to practice.

What You Need to do Acrylic Nails with LAVIS' 2-in-1 Acrylic and Dip Nail Powder:

  • Acrylic powder
  • EMA liquid monomer
  • Nail primer and dehydrator (can be the same product)
  • Acrylic brush (size 10 is handy for beginners)
  • Dappen dish
  • Nail files (coarse and fine) or a nail drill
  • Mold and pinching tool to shape extensions
  • Manicure tools like clippers, a cuticle pusher, and cuticle oil
  • Acetone for polish removal and clean-up
  • Adhesive if applying premade acrylic tips
  • Paper towels for wiping off the brush

Steps to do Acrylic Nails

  1. As you would for any manicure, prep your nails by trimming and shaping them. Push back the cuticles. Buff the shine from the surface and cleanse them.
  2. If you’re putting on nail tips, sort through them as you would with press-ons to find the correct sizes. Then, start with the thumb and place a dot of acrylic nail glue on the back. Press each one into place and hold it in place for 10 seconds. If needed, file the tips afterward.
  3. Now, apply the dehydrator and/or primer. Please don't skip this step, or your manicure will lift. Be careful to avoid flooding the cuticles.
  4. If you’re doing acrylic extensions, attach the mold to your finger.
  5. Next, pour the liquid monomer into the dappen dish. Submerge the acrylic brush in the liquid and press it against the bottom of the dish to eliminate air bubbles. Press off some of the fluid.
  6. Dip the damp brush into the powder, passing it over the surface to form a small acrylic ball. Forming a bead correctly is one of the most challenging parts of doing acrylics, so it may take a few tries.
  7. Press the bead onto the nail near the cuticle. Press and drag the bead to flatten it and spread the acrylic across the nail. If the powder seems too dry, dip the brush into the monomer and add a tiny amount of fluid.
  8. It will take multiple beads to cover the nail.
  9. Frequently wipe the brush on a paper towel to avoid clumps.
  10. Use a pinching tool to shape the extension if needed.
  11. Depending on the temperature, it takes at least 2 minutes for acrylics to dry. Test each nail by tapping it with the end of the brush. It should make a hollow sound.
  12. Once the acrylic is dry, you can file it, paint it, and decorate it however you wish. Go wild with any embellishments you desire. Or shape acrylic beads themselves into holiday decorations.

Dip Powder Nails

Once available only in salons, dip powder manicures are now achievable at home. They create stunning nails that look salon-fresh for up to a month to get you through the holidays. Although they don't build extensions as long as acrylics, dip powder can still lengthen and strengthen natural nails.

Steps to do Dip Nails

  1. Prep your nails by trimming, shaping, and pushing back the cuticles. Buff the shine from the surface and cleanse them.
  2. Brush on a thin layer of the E.A Bond liquid to dehydrate and prepare the nails. It dries quickly within 20 seconds with a fan.
  3. Shake the jar and open the powder in preparation for use. If it’s your personal supply, you can dip directly into it.
  4. Apply a thin layer of the base coat to the first nail. Be careful not to get it on the skin, as the powder will adhere wherever it is.
  5. Then, dip and scoop the wet nail at a 45-degree angle into and out of the powder. Use a fluffy brush to gently remove the excess.
  6. Paint another coat of base and dip the nail again. Brush off the extra powder. Buff the nail and shape it if needed. Check the free edge to make sure it’s covered. Repeat for all the nails.
  7. If you want an ombre look, sprinkle the color onto the nails for better control. Remember, the powder will only stick where you've painted the activator, allowing you to create intricate, textured designs.
  8. Clean the brush in between coats with Brush Saver to avoid clumps and contamination.
  9. Inspect the nails and clean up mistakes. Cleanse them, then apply one more coat of Sealer Dry to all of them.
  10. After the nails have dried for two minutes, coat them with a thin layer of top coat. Repeat and let dry for another 2 minutes. Then, go enjoy your dip powder manicure!
